JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Field Producer

Reporting To: Senior Broadcast Journalist/Duty Editor

Department/Division: News & Programmes

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • You will work primarily with reporters and programme producers in London and be prepared to be deployed elsewhere at short notice including to hostile areas.
  • You will provide specialist and general coverage of events across the range the outlets by producing and supporting reporters who make original TV stories.
  • You will have the digital background to help client expand the news agenda beyond standard TV reporting, and to expanding the audience among under-represented groups.
  • Experience of working as a field producer or similar role in a busy news environment is essential, together with a superb range of international contacts, particularly Arabic speaking.
  • You will have Arabic as your first or equivalent language and fluent English. You will have an excellent, detailed understanding of news and current affairs in the Arab world and internationally.
  • To originate and select stories and prepare programme material for broadcast, offering ideas and giving guidance to senior editors and programme producers.
  • To produce items for TV, and Social Media when required, using the appropriate technical and production skills.
  • To supervise the editing of packages/programmes in liaison with editorial staff.
  • To establish strong relationships with news and programme editors in London and the region to assist with programme output.
  • To be capable of arranging and booking logistics and technical requirements for delivering for TV and digital media.
  • To be responsible for deployment planning and expenditure.
  • To observe and carry out any safety requirement and specifically to conduct detailed and accurate risk assessments when needed.
  • To be aware of the full extent of the financial and purchasing authority of the post and to ensure this authority is exercised in accordance with policies and financial arrangements.
  • To follow safety requirements and instructions, especially in relation to emergencies; and to report any accidents, dangerous situations or defects in safety arrangements
  • To carry out the above duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable legal obligations, including broadcast regulations specifically in accordance with the Ofcom Code.
  • Other duties may be assigned.To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Essential / Required Skill Set & Experience:

  • Considerable experience of broadcast journalism TV and the making TV packages.
  • Experience and thorough understanding of the Company’s legal obligations, including the Ofcom Code.
  • A detailed grasp of Arab affairs.
  • Experience of international deployments and breaking news stories.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of working in hostile environments.
  • Knowledge of agendas of the full range of client programmes, audiences and media markets across the region. 
  • A proven ability to develop original stories and a commitment to a breadth of reporting.
  • A creative approach to engaging the audience.
  • A thorough understanding of TV main production methods and technology.
  • Willingness to work flexibly – including ‘unsocial’ hours and travelling at short notice.
  • Ability to adapt to changing audience habits and new formats and a willingness to undergo training to keep abreast of new technologies.
  • Ability to produce two-ways and use social media actively to promote TV coverage. 
  • Ability to convey story and programme ideas and to contribute fully to the planning process.
  • Ability to learn new skills (technically and editorially)
  • Ability to maintain good co-operation with other production personnel both in London and in the field, and to forge a collaborative, flexible and communicative relationship.
  • Ability to give and accept constructive feedback.
  • Ability to remain calm when working to deadlines, apply sensible work priorities and pace him/herself through the assignment.
  • Sound understanding of the needs of growing digital output in the Arabic region.
